Infrared Thermography in the Maldives

Vibhawa Consultants carries out infrared thermography surveys of resort electrical systems across the Maldives, at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and Patina Maldives. Every survey is led by a Level III certified thermographer and runs on live load, so nothing is shut down and guests are not disturbed.

Resorts we have surveyed

Maldives resorts run their own island power systems in a salt-laden, humid climate. We have surveyed some of the best-known resorts in the country, several of them more than once.

2019 · 2021 · 2022

Taj Exotica Resort & Spa

Repeat infrared thermography surveys of the resort's electrical distribution, carried out alongside our electrical safety audits and ETAP studies at the resort.

2025

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island

Infrared thermography for the Hilton flagship, as part of an electrical safety audit and ETAP studies.

2026

Patina Maldives

Infrared thermography for condition monitoring in a live ultra-luxury resort, including the distribution boards on the overwater villa walkways, with work planned around guest occupancy.

“Testing was carried out with calibrated instruments, in compliance with IEC and BS standards — across electrical audits, thermography and ETAP studies.”— Director of Engineering, Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Maldives

What we scan on a resort

We agree the exact list with your chief engineer before we travel.

  • Main LV switchboards, incomers and busbar sections
  • Sub-main panels and distribution boards, including back-of-house and villa boards
  • Transformers and cable terminations
  • Generator sets, synchronising and generator control panels
  • Plant rooms: desalination, chillers, pumps and sewage treatment motor control centres
  • Kitchen, laundry and spa supplies

Why island resorts need it

Salt air and humidity

Sea air and constant humidity speed up corrosion at terminations and busbar joints. Corroded joints run hot long before they fail, and a thermal camera sees that heat.

Heavy, continuous loads

Chillers and desalination plants run around the clock. Loose or overloaded connections heat up under that load and get worse over time.

The resort is its own grid

A resort makes its own power on the island. A failed incomer or generator panel can take out a whole area of the resort, with no utility supply to fall back on.

Spares come by boat

Replacement equipment and specialists arrive by boat or seaplane. Finding a fault early lets the repair be planned instead of rushed.

How a survey runs

  1. PlanWe review your single-line diagram and panel list with the chief engineer and agree access times.
  2. Scan on live loadYour electrician opens panel covers under your permit-to-work while we scan. No shutdown.
  3. GradeEach hot spot is graded by severity, so you know what needs attention first.
  4. ReportThermal and visual image, location, likely cause and recommended action for every finding.
  5. Re-scanAfter repairs, we re-scan on request to confirm the fault is cleared.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a shutdown?

No. Thermography is done on live, loaded equipment. We only need your electrician to open panel covers under your permit-to-work. We scan at normal or peak load, because faults show most clearly then.

Can you work around guests?

Yes. We plan the route with your engineering team: plant rooms and back-of-house first, and guest-area boards at times you choose.

What do you need from the resort?

Your single-line diagram, a list of panels and their locations, an electrician to escort the team, and the plant running at normal load on the survey days.

How does your team get to the resort?

Our team flies from Colombo to Malé, a short flight, and transfers to the resort on your boat or seaplane. The thermal cameras and test equipment travel with us.

Can thermography be combined with other testing?

Yes. Many resorts combine it with an electrical safety audit, earthing and lightning protection testing or an ETAP island-mode study on the same trip.

Do you offer drone thermography in the Maldives?

Drone thermography is available on request, with permits arranged per project.

Who leads the survey?

Our Maldives surveys are led by a Level III certified thermographer, certified by the Infraspection Institute, USA, with Level II thermographers from our in-house team.
