Electrical consultancy and independent design review
From a 33 kV intake for a cement plant to the low-voltage and control systems of a resort, Vibhawa provides electrical design, independent review of someone else's design, protection and automation scheme design, and root-cause investigation when something has already gone wrong. Led by Chartered Electrical Engineers who also test and commission — so the design is written by people who know what fails on site.

What our electrical consultancy covers
Design work and advisory work across the full voltage range. The modelling and studies that often sit alongside it — protection coordination, arc flash, load flow, short circuit — are a service line of their own: Power System Studies.

Named work
Snowy 2.0 — distribution system modelled across more than 100 substations
ETAP modelling of the construction-phase electrical distribution for the 2,200 MW scheme, at 33, 22 and 11 kV down to 1000 V and 415 V — load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and arc flash. Awarded by Future Generation JV. Read the project →
Cheval Blanc Randheli — 3 MW 11 kV / 400 V offshore and onshore substation
Engineering of the substation that brings a floating solar array ashore to a luxury resort: design, power system studies, testing and commissioning, delivered for the floating-solar developer SWIMSOL. Our Maldives work →
Lanka Walltiles — electrical design consultancy
Design consultancy for a ceramic tile manufacturer's plant electrical system. Read the note →
EnergyKey — substation design and protection modelling
Design of offshore and modular compact substations and the associated protection coordination and arc flash modelling, delivered remotely for a UK engineering company.
Also: two 2.5 MVA compact substations for a 12-charger EV charging facility at Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT), and electrical work in Qatar for the Qatar Airways hangar at Bin Ghalib, a military facility and Multi Energy Qatar. All projects →
How an engagement runs
Scope
A conversation about the project and what the engagement has to produce — a design, a review of someone else's, a scheme, or an answer to what went wrong.
Data and site
Drawings, loads, utility data and the standards the contract names. A site visit where the scope needs one — a review of an existing installation usually does, a new design from drawings usually does not.
Design or analysis
The engineering, in ETAP where modelling is involved, against the standard you are being held to: IEC, BS 7671, AS/NZS 3000 or the client specification.
Deliverable
Drawings, specifications, a review report with numbered findings, or an investigation report — signed by a Chartered Electrical Engineer and written to be acted on, not filed.
Frequently asked
What electrical consultancy does Vibhawa provide?
Electrical design for HV, MV, LV and ELV systems; independent review of a contractor's or EPC's design; protection and automation scheme design; lightning protection, surge and earthing design; and electrical incident investigation. Power system studies — coordination, arc flash, load flow, short circuit — are a separate service line and are often scoped together with design work.
Do you provide consultancy for renewable energy projects?
Yes — the electrical design of solar, wind, waste-to-energy and fuel-cell plant from the point of connection down, and the ETAP studies that go with it. We do not currently offer dynamic grid-code compliance modelling for utility connection applications, and we will say so rather than sell it.
Can you review or design a facility's protection scheme?
Yes. We design protection and automation schemes for plants and generation sites, and we review existing schemes through a protection coordination study. The design side writes the philosophy; the study side proves it on a model — and gives you the arc flash study from the same model; the testing side proves it on the switchgear. All three are in-house.
What is an independent design review, and when is it worth it?
A review of an electrical design produced by someone with a commercial interest in it being approved. It is worth it on any project where the contractor also chose the equipment, and on any project an insurer or a lender will look at. The finding that pays for the review is usually a fault level or a protection setting that would have been found at commissioning — at ten times the cost.
Do you work on projects outside Sri Lanka?
Yes. Design and modelling work is delivered remotely for clients in Australia, Vietnam and the UK, and we have delivered projects on site in the Maldives and Qatar. The same engineers lead the work wherever it is.
Send us the drawings
A single-line diagram and a sentence about the project is enough for us to scope the engagement and tell you whether it is a design, a review or a study you actually need.
